About Oakland...

Oakland maintains a designated Main Street and Arts and Entertainment District.  Oakland is the county seat of Garrett County, Maryland.  It sustains a population of 1,925.  It has an elevation of 2,534 feet and the town fully embraces all four seasons.  The town offers a great mix of government, commercial, health care and residential uses.  The town hosts a variety shops, restaurants, events, outdoor recreation activities and historic landmarks.  Oakland maintains a 400-acre park with 140 acres of water, a 600 foot sandy beach for swimming, picnic pavilions, playgrounds and great fishing.  Oakland is also home to a 18-hole golf course with a pro shop, dining facility and clubhouse.  The following website shares incredible stories from Garrett County and Oakland, Maryland and what makes it such a wonderful place to live. Oakland, MD is one hour from Uniontown, Pa, Morgantown, WV and Cumberland, MD.  WE are 2-3 hours from Pittsburgh, PA, Baltimore, MD and Washington, DC.

All day Free Parking is offered in the Oakland Town Parking lot located at 201 Town Park Lane.  Two hour free parking is permitted along the street. Parking fees may be enforced if you exceed the two hour limit.

Garrett County Board of Education
​Garrett County has small community schools with an abundance of community support.  Students have a wide variety of technology in the classroom as well as an abundance of outdoor learning opportunities. There is a variety of activities for students including sports, robotics, agriculture and more.  Southern and Northern Garrett High School graduates are able to attend Garrett Community College for two years at no cost!  There are also great opportunities for those students who are career ready.

Garrett Regional Medical Center
GRMC is affiliated with WVU Medicine in Morgantown, WV. GRMC ​has been named a Top 100 Rural & Community Hospital.  It is home to the WVU Cancer Institute, James & Shirley Bailey Regional Cancer Center, an expansion of this department is anticipated in the fall of 2019. New services lines for 2018-19 include behavioral health, dermatology and colorectal surgical subspecialty.  US News and World Report called it the Best Nursing Home for Sub Acute Unit from 2014-2019.  It is certified by the Joint Commission for Acute Stroke Readiness. It is a proud partner in attaining the Robert Wood Johnson Culture of Health Prize.

One example is the 1884 Queen Anne-style B&O Train Station, which is now the Oakland B&O Museum.
